A road map to environmental disaster in Alaska

Regarding Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell’s Aug. 6 op-ed, “On thin ice”:

Mr. Parnell would have the reader believe that polar bears are thriving in the Arctic, when the scientific literature is very clear that they are starving, because the loss of sea ice makes it difficult for them to hunt seals, their main food. Polar bear populations are in fact declining, and experts expect them to be extinct in the wild before the end of this century. Further human encroachment will only hasten that decline.
